Kick-off Meeting 2023
In February the second Kick-off Meeting of our International Research Training Group took place. For three days Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) and Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech) members met in Gifu, Japan to spend their time together. These were days full of presentations and lectures but also the cultural aspect was not neglected.
The meeting started with a welcome from the Director, Professor Kyle G. Webber and the Co-Director Professor Ken-ichi Kakimoto at the hotel Grand Vert Gizan, in Gifu. Primarily, this meeting is supposed to offer new doctoral researchers of the second generation the opportunity to have a first glimpse in the various projects of our IRTG on both German and Japanese sides. This was achieved by project presentations about the work and results achieved in the first generation, as well as ring lectures on various topics, forging a bridge from “Technical trends in e-Axles for Electrified Vehicles” to “History and trends in nano-simulations” held by our Japanese partner Principal Investigators.
A keynote lecture completed the meeting. In the evenings a big come together took place which gave the opportunity to intensify conversations and mutual exchange. Furthermore, our doctoral researchers of the first cohort were honored for their achievements. We are looking forward to many doctoral defenses this year.
The meeting was rounded off by a visit in Inuyama, with its famous and wonderful castle. This trip made it possible for all participants to learn more about Japanese culture and architecture.
