With its wide streets, baroque buildings, and open squares, Erlangen is one of the best-preserved baroque planned cities in Germany. The smallest big city in Bavaria offers a very special atmosphere with its student flair, living tradition, and a cosmopolitan ambience.
Erlangen is a university city and today mainly characterized by the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) as well as other large corporations that call the region home, such as Siemens, Siemens Healthineers, Adidas, and Puma.
The Faculty of Engineering at FAU was founded in 1966, making it one of the first traditional universities in Germany to offer degree programs in engineering, and has since then established an outstanding reputation both nationally and internationally for excellence in research. It has grown to include 6 departments, spanning mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, chemical and biological engineering, computer science, and artificial engineering in biomedical engineering. Professors, researchers, and students work together on fundamentals as well as on market- and technology-relevant topics with a focus on knowledge. The Faculty Administration is located on the FAU Southern Campus Erlangen, where the PEM School will take place:
